Research Focus
Lindsey’s research explores the history of design through the intersection of traditional skills and contemporary creative practice. Her research engages communities working to preserve these material histories, linking design’s past with its potential. As an apprentice at Hatch Show Print, Nashville’s 144-year-old letterpress print shop, Lindsey learned printing techniques from experienced printers and embraced a unique blend of old tech and fresh design. The implication of printing posters for the NFL and other high-profile clients on 100-year-old presses was not lost on her, and continues to fuel ongoing projects and workshops that reflect on our industry’s history and the role of the printer-designer throughout. By combining analog techniques with new technologies and perspectives, Lindsey expands upon these histories and encourages her students to do the same.
Bio
Lindsey Camelio is a graphic designer and educator whose design experience spans branding, advertising, and communication design. She has worked with local, national, and global clients, including PepsiCo, Philips, NASCAR, Johnson & Johnson, Starbucks, the American Cancer Society, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Her design work has received Platinum and Gold awards in design, marketing, and public relations.
At UGA, Lindsey brings her professional perspective to her teaching and the Layton Design Studio, a donor-supported, client-facing studio within the Lamar Dodd School of Art that she founded and directs. The studio gives students the opportunity to work with nonprofit, institutional, and industry partners on real-world projects. Through these experiences, Lindsey guides students through the full design process, from client meetings and research to concept development, production, and presentation, helping them develop the collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills that prepare them for careers in graphic design. She also leads the NYC Graphic Design Maymester course, connecting students directly with working designers, studios, and cultural institutions in New York City.
Lindsey holds an MFA in Graphic Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA in Graphic Design from Maine College of Art.
