Biography
Dan (aka See Dan Paint) was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He earned a BFA in Painting, an MAEd in Art Education, and a PhD in Art with a concentration in Art Education from the University of Georgia. Spontaneous Monsterfication is a technique Smith developed that utilizes spontaneously painted cartoonish and monstrous faces to enhance spaces through a jigsaw arrangement of bold shapes and imagery. His art continues to be influenced by the Saturday morning cartoons of his childhood, punk rock culture, and skateboard graphics. After teaching K-12 art for several decades, he currently serves as the Fine Arts, Health, and Physical Education Coordinator for a Georgia public school district. His research explores post-qualitative arts-based inquiry, affect theory, and the DIY punk aesthetics of the everyday.
