In this exhibition, Dodd graduate students Nick Abrami, Christina Foard, and Mary Gordon employ color as a means to examine personal histories. Gordon’s wood and wire installations recall childhood play and discovery. Foard’s paintings engage domesticity, imagining the noisy back-and-forth of familial conversations throughout the years. Abrami’s ceramic forms serve as markers, half-monuments, that memorialize specific times and places significant to the artist. Color coding acts as a way to create new symbols and references, allowing for various adjacencies between the three artists. While diverse in content and material, the artists engage color to highlight the quiet poignancy of memory.
Nick Abrami is a third year MFA candidate at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia. He earned a BFA in ceramic art in 2015 from the University of North Florida and has been a long term resident at both St Petersburg Clay Company and Brockway Center for Art and Technology. He has recently shown at The American Craft Council (Atlanta, GA), Morean Art Center for Clay (St. Petersburg, FL), and The North Campus Art Gallery (Jacksonville, FL). Abrami currently lives and works in Athens, GA.
Christina Foard is a third year graduate candidate at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia. She received a BFA in Painting from the University of Cincinnati, followed by a 25 year career in non-profit communications and arts administration in Washington DC and Jacksonville, FL. Foard’s work has been shown regionally at Thomas Deans Fine Art (Atlanta), Stellers Gallery (Ponte Vedra), and Florida Mining Gallery (Jacksonville, FL). Foard’s most recent solo exhibitions were held at the Florida School of the Arts (Palatka, FL), Florida Mining Gallery (Jacksonville, FL,), and University of North Georgia (Gainesville, GA). Foard has participated in recent group exhibitions at the Lyndon House (Athens, GA), The Center for Contemporary Art (Bedminster, NJ), Indigo Hotel Gallery (Athens, GA), and The Bowery Gallery (NYC). Foard currently directs an interdisciplinary social ecology project entitled, Imagination Squared:Pathways to Resilience, #imaginationsquared imaginationsquared.org.
Mary Gordon is a third year graduate student at the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia. She received BFAs in Printmaking and Painting from Kansas State University in 2015 and has exhibited and participated in residency programs nationally. Recent exhibitions include the Mason-Scharfenstein Museum of Art (Demorest, GA), Oconee Cultural Arts Foundation (Watkinsville, GA), Swan Coach House Gallery (Atlanta, GA), and Lyndon House Arts Center (Athens, GA). Currently, she lives and works in Athens, GA.
