Photography Fellow Forest Kelley Scored Oscar Nominated Documentary

Dodd Photography Fellow Forest Kelley composed music for the film Hale County This Morning, This Evening which won Best Music Score from the International Documentary Association. Additional composers were Scott Alario and Alex Somers. The film was directed and produced by RaMell Ross. The documentary also featured at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival and won the US Documentary Special Jury Award for Creative Vision and has been nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary (Featured).

“Composed of intimate and unencumbered moments of people in a community, Hale County This Morning, This Evening allows the viewer an emotive impression of the Historic South – trumpeting the beauty of life and consequences of the social construction of race, while simultaneously a testament to dreaming – despite the odds.”

Kelley is the Photography Fellow at the Lamar Dodd School of Art. He received an MFA in Photography from the Rhode Island School of Design and a BA in Social Economics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Before joining the Dodd, Kelley taught at Virginia Commonwealth University, the University of Rochester, and Syracuse University.
