The School of Art is pleased to announce that MFA Candidate Chad Hayward currently has works on view at the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia.

The exhibition titled “Ruminate” was recently featured in Travel Magazine as one of Atlanta’s top ten exhibitions this Spring, and highlights pulp paintings by Lea Basile-Lazarus, Andrea Peterson, and Chad Hayward. Three artists experiencing and ruminating on their surroundings, utilizing pigmented paper pulp as medium. This thought-provoking exhibit invites viewers to explore the idea of situation, region, and circumstance through the distinct lenses of each artist. This grouping of works cover a unique range of impassioned and tangible conditions of place. All the works utilize pigmented paper pulp to create imagery. A variety of pulped plant fibers create the works, including cotton rag, flax, abaca, phragmites, and millet straw. Each artist approaches the medium with their own way of working, allowing the viewer to see a wide range of mark-making with the unique material of paper pulp.

Hayward’s work is on view from May 6 through August 6.

Chad Hayward was born in New Jersey and then moved to Castle Rock, Colorado with his family at age 7. He attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2017. He then completed his MA in Studio Art at Eastern Illinois University in 2018. Chad currently lives in Athens, Georgia as an MFA candidate at University of Georgia.
