The phenomenon of fake news has made us aware of the fragile division between truth and falsehood. But making false statements represents a pretty basic form of manipulation. The seeding of factual, although selective, information and the eventual molding of opinions that appear to have sprung out of our own reasoning has more insidious and permanent repercussions. This series of crossword puzzles are an example of how context led by an army of veridical data can be more effective in stirring the minds of people towards a predetermined conclusion.
Tommy Mishima was born in Lima, Peru. His work has been exhibited at Stuart and Co. Gallery, Nancy Margolis Gallery, The Clemente Soto Velez Cultural and Educational Center, Buddy Warren Gallery, Projekt722, and the New York Design Center, among others. He received his MFA from Rhode Island School of Design and his BFA from Parsons School of Design. He currently lives and works in New York City.
