The Lamar Dodd School of Art is proud to announce that it was able to award approximately $67,000 in graduate awards and scholarships for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Students applied for scholarships in March of 2020 and were notified of their awards in June. Despite the scholarship application period coinciding with UGA’s move to online instruction, the number of applications was on par with previous years. Of the 48 students awarded, 13 were graduate students and 35 were undergraduate students. Undergraduate students hailed from 14 of the School of Art’s 15 areas of study.

In addition to the initial round of scholarships, the School of Art also debuted two new scholarships with students receiving inaugural scholarships within the School of Art.

The Spark Award

Due to a substantial gift from the Scarborough family, the School of Art has been given the opportunity to establish the Spark Award. The Spark Award is a student project fund that gives undergraduate students an opportunity to create visual art or research projects, enhancing their focus of study at Dodd outside of the classroom. This award is intended to give students an opportunity to foster their art and research interests. Proposed areas of study for this award may be influenced by the classroom or relate to a topic that is influenced by current events.

This award will give an undergraduate student approximately $4,000 in funding.

The Cora Nunnally Miller Fine Art Scholarship

The School of Art was given the opportunity to name three incoming freshman as Cora Nunnally Miller Fine Arts Scholars.

The purpose of the scholarship, made possible as part of a $17 million gift to the university upon Miller’s passing in 2015, is to recognize exceptional artistic talent, to foster interdisciplinary collaborations in the arts, to promote the arts on the UGA campus and beyond, and to give special opportunities to the students in the cohort. Each of the first-year undergraduate students will receive an annual scholarship of $3,000 per year for four years.
