Exhibition closing reception: March 23, 6-8pm
This exhibition is an exchange with MFA UGA sculpture students and MFA sculpture students at the University of Knoxville, Tennessee. Artists featured in the exhibition: Joshua Shorey, Corinna Ray, Erica Mendoza, Cassidy Frye, Holly Kelly, Amy Lefever, Rachel Sevier, and Cara McKinley. The exhibition is curated by Dodd Assistant Professor in Sculpture, Mike Calway-Fagen.
Puzzling over a question on the gallery loan agreement form about the “condition” of their artwork, this group of graduate students decided that an appropriate response might be “fresh.” The word contemporary is used to describe that which is new, recent and of the moment. It is repeated so often that is has become a tired adjective. As an alternative, "fresh" might also be an apt expression of youth, vitality and energy. Is there an expiration date for artwork? When do ideas, objects and images become stale? For now, all of the work in this exhibit meets standards of freshness.
