INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND RELATIVES

» phone calling in italy

Each student should leave the following information with their parents, relatives or a contact in the US:

1. All students should leave a copy of the numbers of their traveler's checks at home. Also, each student should keep a record of these numbers stored in a place different than where the checks are kept. Should traveler's checks be lost or stolen, it is required to have a record of the check numbers in order to file a claim.

2. It is a good idea for each student to leave their checking account numbers, savings account numbers, social security number and copies of their passport and credit cards with a parent, relative or contact in the US. You never know when this information will be needed.

3. Leave a copy of the semester itinerary with parent, relative or contact in the US.

4. Each student should be certain to let parents, relatives or a contact know well in advance when, where and on what flight they will be returning home.

Phone Calling in Italy

Contact Phone Numbers in Italy:

1. John D. Kehoe Center
Cortona, Arezzo
Tel: 011 39 0575 630275 (incoming calls only, please do not call after 11:00 PM Italian time, calls limited to 15 minutes)

2. Ristorante Tonino ( Mon.-Fri., 7:30-8:30 /Italian time, 1:30-2:30 /Eastern Standard Time) Tel: 011 39 0575 630633 (incoming calls only)

3. Please keep in mind that Italy is 6 hours AHEAD of Eastern Standard Time when calling. If you call students in the Albergo Athens after 11:00 PM Italian time, you will be waking up other students.

4. Please also be aware that upon immediate arrival into Italy, students may experience difficulty in calling you to notify you of their arrival. In order to call you they must first exchange money, deal with luggage, buy a phone card, find a phone and negotiate the Italian phone system. Please do not panic or worry. Students sometimes place themselves in greater danger trying to call too quickly. It is safer to be patient.

5. Please keep in mind that when calling a student in the Kehoe Center, there is only one shared phone among all the students. This phone is for incoming calls only and calls must be limited to 10-15 minutes. For longer conversations, it is better that the student call you from a pay phone with a telephone calling card.
