General Critieria for Faculty Positions
The following considerations are utilized in making faculty appointments
for spring, summer and fall semesters:
The University of Georgia faculty have priority for teaching positions.
Should no University of Georgia faculty member be interested in a
particular semester, we will review applications from outside the
University of Georgia for teaching assignments.
Appointments are usually made to faculty who hold the terminal degree
in their field and have been teaching full-time at the university
level at least three to five years. However, on occasion we do hire
others who demonstrate significant professional achievement.
Previous travel in Italy or participation in a studies abroad program
can be an important consideration for assigning the varied responsibilities
of teaching in a program such as ours.
A knowledge of Italian is desirable.
A complete application should include the following:
1. A letter of interest specifically stating which term(s) you wish
to participate as a faculty member, your specific area(s) of expertise,
and any qualifications you have that would identify your suitability
for teaching in a studies abroad program in Italy.
2. A current resume or curriculum vitae.
3. Slides of your work (at least 20).
4. Slides of work by your students, if available and applicable.
5. A list of four (or more) references including addresses and telephone
numbers.
6. Any additional material you feel is pertinent for teaching with
the University of Georgia Studies Abroad Program in Cortona, Italy.
Applications should be received in August one year prior to when
you wish to teach in summer or fall. (For spring semester faculty
appointments, we must have information by April one year prior to
when an individual wishes to teach.)
The review process for candidates includes an initial screening
by our office. The applicant's files are then forwarded to the departmental
area chairs at the University of Georgia for review. Usually after
conference with each chair, a suitable candidate is selected for
teaching in the specific areas of our program. Final appointments
are made after consultation between appropriate area chairs, the
head of the Lamar Dodd School of Art, and the director of the Studies
Abroad Program.
At the end of three years, your file will be discarded unless you
request to have your materials returned or your application updated. |
