Dodd Alumnus Roz Dimon displays work in the small group exhibition, IMAGINED: New Dimensions in Digital Art, at the South Street Gallery in Greenport, New York. An opening reception for this show will be held on July 7, 2017 from 6–9pm during the Greenport Gallery Art Walk. The show is on view from June 29–July 31.

In addition to its regular study abroad programs, the School of Art holds a Maymester field study program in New York city every term. Initiated in 2014, The NYC Maymester is a chance for School of Art students gain exposure to the many facets of the city’s bustling art scene during an intensive 3-week program.

School of Art alumna Bryna Bobick co-edited, along with Leigh Hersey, the recently published book Handbook of Research on the Facilitation of Civic Engagement through Community Art. The book is published by IGI Global and explores the numerous ways that the arts can encourage civic engagement. At 671 pages, it is a comprehensive reference source for emerging perspectives on the incorporation of artistic works to facilitate improved civic engagement.
Melissa Harshman was a visiting artist at Swoope Editions in Maitland, Florida on February 10th during which time she worked with Dodd alumnus Larry Cooper (MFA 2002) on an edition of forty screenprints. Harshman also has a solo exhibition at Swoope Gallery on view through March 3, 2017.
A big congratulations from the School of Art to recent alumnus Nic Walter, who joins the staff of MoMA PS1 in New York City this fall. In this position, Walter brings together his interest in art, research, and the social sciences, much as he did as an undergraduate student at The University of Georgia. Walter pursued interdisciplinary studies focsed on visual perception, graduating with a BA degree in Cognitive Sciences, a BS degree in Psychology, and a BA degree in Art History in December of 2015.
2010 Dodd graduate Rae Cook recently had an illustration featured in the Boston Globe. Cook received her BFA in Printmaking and Book Arts from UGA then went on to pursue her MFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art & Design.

The book Ave Maria, a collaboration between Rylan Steele and Nora Wendl, was recently published by Savannah, GA-based independent press Aint–Bad. Steele is a widely exhibited photographer who teaches at Columbus State University (GA) as Associate Professor of Photography. In 2007, he received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography from the Lamar Dodd School of Art.
Zipporah Thompson, Dodd MFA ('14) and Kelly Kristin Jones who was on the faculty as the Dodd Post-MFA photo fellow in 2012, have been selected finalists for the 2016 Artadia Atlanta Awards. Artadia: The Fund for Art and Dialogue, announced five finalists for its 2016 Atlanta Awards including Jones and Thomposon along with T. Lang, Jiha Moon and Cosmo Whyte. Artadia is a New York-based national program that supports visual artists.

In 2013, IBM wanted to initiate a sustainable culture of design around a set of principles and practices called IBM Design Thinking. Its goal was to improve how the company creates user-oriented solutions in its products. Since then, IBM has hired over 750 additional designers, four of whom are recent grads from the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art. These four UGA hires currently work with IBM Design, after receiving their BFA degrees from the School of Art with a major in graphic design.
